Daily Histoire

Daily facts, recipes, mythology and history.

IMAGES: With so many social media outlets, many times I cannot find the original photographer's feed or site (or it's been reposted/altered by someone claiming it as their own).
Would love to credit your image - email info@rocklove.com.

SOURCES: Many of the facts are compiled from multiple sources - dissertations & publications quoting the same research. Happy to provide a bibliography, I just don't include it per post to avoid overwhelming text.

RECIPES: Some are adapted for the modern day kitchen; many include sources and historical notes identifying more authentic ingredients. The goal is to learn something fun and traditional that you can cook for yourself... rather than list unattainable ingredients with instructions for over a fire pit ;)

Hello new followers!
My name is Allison, I am an art historian (with concentration in jewelry), and I have posted a fact-a-day since Jan 1, 2013.  A few months ago, I started compiling some of them here on this Tumblr, and was pleasantly surprised by how many people reposted.
In a time when the internet is over-saturated by made-up factoids, I’d like to remind everyone that history is a changing thing… what one scholar believes, another may contest.  It also is a redundant thing, with source after source referencing each other to add credibility, until you have a dozen historians with the exact same published quote.
Political and religious conflict shape our past and in some instances how we even remember our past… this leads to impassioned dialogue.  But please remember to keep it respectful.  Happy to provide sources.

Historical puns, I haz them.

… I posted this in May; was too embarrassed to admit that I made it up.  Thrilled that everyone is equally nerdy and got the joke.
